What is Localgiving?
Localgiving is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to providing funding opportunities and advocacy to local charities and community groups across the UK.
We do this by supporting local charitable organisations to diversify their income through online fundraising. We provide tools, training and advice to help local groups connect with supporters online, improve their digital skills and develop practical fundraising experience. We are also a leading advocate for the sector and work to raise awareness and support for local groups from the public, government and businesses.
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows tax relief on money donated to UK charities. UK tax payers can top their donation up by 25% from the government which can make a huge difference to small charities and community groups.
If a charity isn’t registered with the Charity Commission or HMRC then it can’t normally claim Gift Aid, however at Localgiving we take care of the claim process so that unregistered charities and community groups can benefit too! What campaigns and match funding is available through Localgiving?
Localgiving runs a range of campaigns, all designed to encourage people to give more to their local charities and community groups. Although the campaigns vary in design, the concept of match funding has always remained central to our work. We run a variety of incentivised giving campaigns to help boost online fundraising for our members.
The next campaign that we are running is Local Hero, launching on 1st April 2018! Each year, Local Hero highlights the incredible ideas and feats of local charity fundraisers. So, if you know any budding athletes, artists or acrobats now is the time to turn them into fundraisers for your cause!
During April 2018 all fundraiser on Localgiving will be ranked on the Local Hero leaderboard according to the number of unique online donors who sponsor their page (10 unique donors equals 10 points, 15 unique donors equals 15 points, etc). At the end of the campaign £5,000 in prizes will be distributed among the causes supported by the top 20 fundraisers – with £1,000 awarded to the winner’s group.
Our flagship campaign, Grow Your Tenner, is our annual national match fund campaign that usually runs in October. During Grow Your Tenner, all donations of up to £10 are matched until the full match fund is emptied. Between 2012 and 2016 Grow Your Tenner raised over £6 million for local charities and community groups across the UK.

Is it better to collect donations online?
Yes! Fundraising online is efficient for both donors and fundraisers. It’s less labour intensive and needs minimal resource from charities. It’s a simple process that enables charities to cultivate their relationship with donors by sending thank you messages and keeping the donor up to date on their activities. Additionally fundraising online helps to raise awareness for your cause as you develop a strong online network of support providing sustainable, unrestricted income.
Localgiving is an online platform with a difference! We want to help charitable organisations to effectively fundraising online and provide regular webinars and group training sessions focusing on a wide variety of topics, including developing a fundraising plan, learning how to make the most of social media etc. Additionally we have a full suite of resources to support our members and help spread the word! Our friendly help desk team are more than happy to support you if you have any questions, just give us a call.
